Japanese dealers quote per gram; a weak yen has lifted the domestic gold price to records even when the dollar price was flat. This page multiplies the international gold price, which is set in US dollars, by the live JPY per US dollar rate, so it moves with both the metal and the currency. A weaker japanese yen raises the local price even when the dollar price is unchanged.
Local retail prices in Japan will differ: dealers add a premium over spot, jewelers add making charges, and taxes or import duty may apply. The figure here is the pure-metal reference they all start from.
Spot prices and FX rates both come from Metals.dev and refresh about once a minute. For the dollar price and its history see the main gold price page; for other units and currencies, the converter.
The live figure per troy ounce, gram and kilogram is at the top of this page, converted from the US-dollar spot price at the current JPY/USD rate.
